About

So, why do I love Liverpool? And why would I presume to write a blog about the Reds?

So, here is an introduction to me and my love for my team!

I live in Ascot, so not a hot-bed for Liverpool supporters. So presumably, you would expect me to support a London based team such as Chelsea or Arsenal, so I blame my Dad for me supporting Liverpool. He has been a life-long ardent Reds fan and his legacy was his godfather (a proper scouser) who, as a christening present bought him an LFC junior membership!

I recall my dad bemoaning Liverpool post-1990 and listening but not fully understanding my dad’s frustration at what he viewed as the demise of his beloved team. For me, it wasn’t really until the 2007-08 season, that my passion for the Reds really ignited. It was the prolific partnership of Liverpool’s No 9 Fernando Torres and captain Steven Gerrard under Rafael Benitez, which made me really understand why people love Liverpool! The type of football we played; the passion of The Kop all cemented my love for the Reds!

Of course, it is important to note that I have grown up in an era where Liverpool hasn’t been the dominant force in English and European football. I must admit it’s been hard at times, watching the Reds coming ever so close to winning titles or cup finals but never quite sealing the deal! But once a Red, always a Red, and it can be a curse! I have learned the legacy and rivalry of Manchester Utd; Ferguson’s dominance whilst we lingered to be the almost team. Now the tide has turned and Manchester Utd are chasing whilst the normal one, Jurgen Klopp strides forward.

I have been lucky enough to visit Anfield on numerous occasions. I wish I could go every week, but the commute from Ascot to Liverpool is a stretch, even if I spend most of the car journey curled up with a pillow! I get goosebumps every time I visit and that never changes for me! But nothing will be more special than my first trip there. I think only when you visit Anfield, you realise that being a Liverpool fan isn’t just being a football fan, it’s a way of life! Anfield on match-day explains the 12th man. Watching a game, the banter, the one-liners, the familiar strings of YNWA, and the different non-scouse voices you can hear, shows how the Reds have such a global following. Liverpool may have a global fan-base but for me, Anfield has always retained that family-friendly club, a team for its home city and supporters!
